We believe every child has the right to be treated as a child first, regardless of ability or any other factor. Te Akonga offers children, with special needs, the opportunity to learn through play in a quality environment with a wide range of appropriate educational resources.

Supportive, warm, responsive child-adult interactions are fundamental to our aim of helping our children develop independence, confidence and a sense of achievement. Our programme is base on the New Zealand curriculum framework Te Whaariki.

Inclusive

With us, children with special needs and typically developing children learn side by side. This inclusive approach teaches children tolerance, acceptance and respect, while the children provide each other with great role models and language partners.
